Third graders at Arrowhead Elementary School are learning about fractions with the help of a delicious treat… pizza! On May 22, students were greeted into math paraprofessional Lauren Van Scoy’s classroom, which was transformed into Van Scoy’s Pizza Palace. Students were given aprons, chef’s hats and slices of pizza fractions on arrival.
Collaboratively, students solved word problems by using fraction-shaped pizza slices. After, the students worked independently to make the perfect pizza with eight equal slices by following directions to add sauce, pepperoni, mushrooms, olives and bell peppers.
