2010 Battle of the Books - Fourth Grade

Battle of the Books is an optional  fourth grade experience where students are given a list of 100 titles to read.  They are given the list at the end of third grade.  A written test is given sometime during May and the top scoring 24 students (5 competitors plus an alternate) are divided into four teams.  Two mini-battles between the 4 teams are held in the library.  Winning teams of the mini-battles then face each other in a final battle in our school auditorium before an audience of the entire fourth and third grades.  Parents of competing students are invited to the Final School Battle. The calendar for this year's Battle of the Books is below:

Friday, May 14 - Written Test
I am overwhelmed by the high scores of our fourth grade students this year.  In years past, I have had to reach down to fill the four teams with scores of 22 and 19.  This year's cut off is 43!
Monday, May 24 - First and Second School Battles
We had two exiciting mini battles!  The second mini battle ended in a tie and we were forced into a 15-question tie-breaker.  Surviving teams are the Cougars and the Bobcats.  These two teams will face each other for the final battle on June 8th!  Congratulations to all four teams who competed in the mini battles:  Tigers v. Cougars and Lions v. Bobcats.
Tuesday, June 8th - Final School Battle
