Principal's Message:

August 2010

Dear Setauket Families,

Welcome to Setauket Elementary School!

The first day of school is on Tuesday, September 7th.  Our new school hours are 9:25 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.  We have been busy this summer with major renovations to our school.  Classrooms have been refurbish to maximize space, a new heating and ventilation system has been installed, and a new staging area for parents to drop off and pick up their child(ren) will add to the efficiency and safety of arrival and dismissal.  We will implement our new parent pick-up procedure on Monday, September 20th.  More information will follow the first week of school.  Until that time, if you pick your child(ren) up at dismissal, use the same procedures we have used previously.

The District will post elementary student information regarding their class teacher, room number, and bus routes on Thursday, August 26th at 11:00 a.m. on the Parent Portal.

Our School is comprised of nearly 800 students in grades Kindergarten through sixth grade. Setauket is an excellent school and provides our students with various enriching opportunities to learn and grow.  We believe that our school must be:

~ a school community where all members, students, teachers, parents and administrators, work together as a team to educate our children and ensure that each child reaches their full potential.

~ a place where students are prepared to be respectful and responsible individuals who are able to meet life challenges and make meaningful contributions to society.

~ a school climate that instills a life-long love of learning.

~ a school that encourages an awareness and respect for diverse learners and the many cultures of our world.

Our goal is for students to be responsible and independent learners. We encourage respectful behaviors through Setauket’s Y.E.S. Respect Program and through our Peaceful Playgrounds Program. Children are reminded to respect ...

        Yourself
        Each Other
        School

Our school is also committed to seek ways to reduce the amount of paper that is sent home. Therefore, all of our school and PTA notices are posted on the Parent Portal through Infinite Campus and the District Website. Three Village School District has provided for a phone contact system called School Messenger. You will receive monthly messages reminding you of upcoming events and other newsworthy items.

The District Website is a wonderful resource for our families.  Our handbooks, newsletter and minutes of our Site-based Management Team meetings can be found on our website.  To find curriculum guides, look under Departments and Programs and click on Essentials of Learning.  There are also links for Parent Resources, Assessments, Resource Guides, and more.  Please visit our PTA website at www.setauketpta.com for upcoming events, PTA meetings, committees and other important information.

Warmly,

Anne M. Rullan, Ed. D. , Principal
