Practice Expectations

Students who play an instrument are expected to practice 4-5 times per week for 15-20 minutes. Practicing should be considered homework, and is just as important as a sports practice. We know that, especially in the beginning of 4th grade, there may be some interesting sounds coming from your child’s instrument! While they may be unpleasing to the ear, the only way for those sounds to improve is with weekly practice! Below are some of the things you should hear your child practicing at home:

Ø      4th Grade Band students should be warming up with “Mrs. Bletsch’s Wonderful Warm-up” and/or the Band Worksheet. Weekly assignments are circled and dated in the lesson book as well.

Ø      4th Grade Orchestra students should be practicing “warm up your strings,” “on the D-string (D, E, F# and G),” and Hot Cross Buns.

In addition to above, please practice A B C# D - Clare de da Lune (Yellow Belt Song), Twinkle and Jingle Bells

Ø      5th and 6th grade band students should be practicing their scales on page 37, weekly assignments that are circled and dated in their lesson book, and concert music.

Ø      5th and 6th grade orchestra students should be practicing the D Major Scale and their 3 concert pieces.

In addition, all students are expected to have a binder with page protectors to hold their music. Page protectors are sold at our school store if you are unable to find them at a store. They are very helpful in organizing the music!
