Special Education

Q: What about the IEP?

A: Special education teachers and speech pathologists prepared learning activities to
maintain continuity of learning. These materials were sent home with students. Once
school is back in session we will evaluate student needs and services on an individual basis. Students will also be receiving support from their related service providers.

Email is the best way to reach teachers and related service providers on your child’s
team. Teachers are checking emails frequently and will get back to you via email.

Q: What about CSE meetings?

A: CSE, CPSE, and 504 meetings that were scheduled March 16 or after will be
rescheduled. All CSE and CPSE meetings will be held remotely going forward to
maintain the safety of all involved. Parents will be notified of meetings via US Mail
and email where possible.

Q: Initial evaluations and reevaluations

A: Any initial referral or reevaluation evaluation assessment that has not been
completed will be postponed until school resumes due to the need for face-to-face
assessments. This was indicated in the guidelines from NYSED.

Q: Should I pick up my child’s medication or supplies from the health office?

A: Physicians provide the health office a separate prescription for medication given at school. If you are running low at home, it is recommended that you have that
prescription refilled. In cases of Epi-Pens, inhalers, seizure medication, diabetic testing materials, etc. parents should have their own supply at home. These items should be left in the health office, so they are available when students return.
Please contact the building principal in the event you absolutely need your child’s
medication and arrangements will be made.
