The color orange, kind sayings and collaborative initiatives blanketed the Three Village Central School District as students and staff came together to celebrate this year’s Unity Week at the end of October.

At Nassakeag, students celebrated with different theme days, including Start With Hello inspired by the Sandy Hook Promise, Favorite T-shirt and Nobody Plays Alone. On Unity Day, all were encouraged to wear orange – the national color of unity – and perform random acts of kindness throughout the day. Two banners were set up in the building for the students to document and give shoutouts to someone who completed a random act of kindness for them on this day. Post-its were placed on one of the banners throughout the day for everyone to see.

W.S. Mount Elementary School created a tree to display how “unbe-leafably” kind the building’s students and staff are on a regular basis. Paper leaves were inscribed with words of wisdom and ways that each can work to make the school, community and world more united.

The goal of Unity Week was to “bring together youth, parents, educators, businesses, and community members across the nation to emphasize the message that bullying is not acceptable and that all students deserve to be safe in school, online, and in the community.”
