As a result of their respective wins at the schoolwide National Geography Bee contests and subsequent scores on the state-qualifying exam, R.C. Murphy Junior High School eighth-grader Peter DiPietro and P.J. Gelinas Junior High School seventh-grader Matthew Kronenberg competed in the state finals at the New York State Museum in downtown Albany.

The pair competed against a group of 100 finalists from throughout New York State during the contest. Although neither advanced to the next round, each student displayed a high level of knowledge of social studies, geography and science during all rounds of the contest.
