Ward Melville High School teacher Dr. Marnie Kula received the Distinguished Teacher 2024 award from the Harvard Club of Long Island. Dr. Kula is the science department chairperson at Ward Melville High School, as well as the director of the InSTAR program.

Current undergraduate students at Harvard University have the opportunity to nominate their former teachers for this prestigious award. Only ten teachers from all of Long Island are selected to receive it.

The Board of Education honored Dr. Kula for her distinguished teacher designation at its March 6 meeting. Ward Melville High School Acting Principal Dr. Paul Gold described Dr. Kula as well-deserving of the award, attributing her commitment, knowledge, accountability and compassion.
