At the Nov. 15 meeting of the Three Village Central School District Board of Education, the New York State School Boards Association presented Ward Melville High School student Ella Ignacio with the Tomorrow’s Leaders Today Award. The recognition program acknowledges and celebrates acts of leadership that positively impact the district and greater community.

“You just took it upon yourself to do something that would make life better for people,” said NYSSBA representative Bernadette Smith when presenting the award to Ignacio. “We recognize your efforts and hope that they serve to inspire other students to bring additional positive change to New York State school districts and communities.”

Ignacio illustrated the children’s book, “Do Skunks Think Skunks Stink?” and sold copies to benefit Angela’s House. Angela’s House is a nonprofit organization that cares for children with special health care needs, while providing support to their families.

Additionally, the Three Village Board of Education presented Ignacio a certificate to commemorate her leadership and illustration work.
