Ward Melville High School twins Michael Lascarides and Katie Lascarides have each received Town of Brookhaven Youth Volunteer awards for their outstanding work in the community.

Michael works with kids at local beaches and teaches them about conservation, recycling and how to take better care of the environment. Meanwhile, Katie focuses on helping young musicians in the community. She works with students from the elementary and middle schools and helps them prepare for NYSSMA auditions with free music lessons.

Michael and Katie were honored for their efforts by the Three Village School District Board of Education on Oct. 11 for their great work in the community.

When asked if the honor was unexpected, Michael said, “I was surprised, but not that Katie got it.”
