The Board of Education recognized members of the R.C. Murphy Junior High School Science Olympiad team at its May 16 meeting. The team finished in eighth place in the New York State competition with top tier placements in several categories. This is a remarkable achievement as there are 285 Science Olympiad teams in New York, with 40 of them participating in the state competition.
Science Olympiad consists of 23 team events ranging from topics including life science, earth science, chemistry and technology. Some events are test events while others involve hands-on building and experimentation.
