At the May 3 Board of Education meeting, several students were honored for recent achievements.

The first recognition acknowledged three first graders from Mount Elementary School – Aurna Chakraborty, Michael Gerber and Isaac Wang – and three third graders from Nassakeag Elementary School – Catherine Hu, Talinn Kim and Easton Tang. These students qualified to compete First in Math statewide championship. They excelled in the virtual regional qualifier round last month and will head to Albany to compete in the final round in-person.

Additionally, the Board of Education recognized the achievements of the Invictus Yearbook staff at Ward Melville High School. Members of the Yearbook Club recently traveled to San Francisco, California to attend the Journalism Education Association/National Scholastic Press Association National Yearbook Convention. The 2022 Ward Melville High School Invictus Yearbook was awarded third place for Best in Show. Several Ward Melville students also took home awards for their work in several categories including photo illustration, infographics, advertising, cover sheets, theme layout and photography.
