Six Three Village Central School District students qualified to advance to the statewide First In Math competition. Congratulations to first graders Aurna Chakraborty, Michael Gerber and Isaac Wang from W.S. Mount Elementary School and third graders Catherine Hu, Talinn Kim and Easton Tang from Nassakeag Elementary School.

Last month, these students faced other Long Islanders in the virtual First In Math Regional Contest. They participated in different challenges to test math skills including fact fluency, automaticity, problem-solving and procedural fluency. They did exceptionally well and will now participate in the in-person statewide championship event.

The statewide championship event will be held at SUNY Albany in May. At this competition, students will use game cards competitively in a group setting to demonstrate their conceptual understanding of several skills. In addition to the six Three Village students who will be attending, two Setauket Elementary School teachers will be judges — Lisa Wall and Joanne Walters.

The district congratulates these students and wishes them the best of luck in the competition.
