At the April 12 Three Village Central School District Board of Education meeting, several students were honored for their work in making the community safer and three teachers were recognized for being named Harvard Club of Long Island Distinguished Teachers.

Ward Melville High School students Melina Montgomery, Julie Yang, Zoe Xiao, Lila Dabrowski, Rebecca Fazio were recognized by the board and administrators for being named winners in the Sidewalks for Safety T-Shirt Design Contest. Sidewalks for Safety is a local nonprofit that works to make the main roads of the Three Village community safer by adding more sidewalks and bike paths. These students helped design t-shirts to raise awareness of the organization’s mission. Judges of the competition, Town Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich and Town Supervisor Ed Romaine, presented the students with certificates.

Additionally, three Ward Melville High School teachers were acknowledged for receiving the Harvard Club of Long Island Distinguished Teacher Award. Jennifer Serigano, Aaron Tam and Dr. Elizabeth Kelso received this honor for inspiring Three Village alumni who applied to Harvard University. Each year, the Harvard Club of Long Island asks current Harvard undergraduates to nominate their secondary teachers who made the greatest difference in their lives. The Club is proud to recognize the contributions Ms. Serigano, Mr. Tam and Dr. Kelso have made to Three Village students.
