Eighth grade home and careers students at R.C. Murphy JHS learned about how different types of bread rise.
Students recently participated in a pretzel lab, emphasizing the importance of yeast in cooking. The eighth graders also learned about the Maillard reaction, a chemical reaction that gives browned food its flavor. They put their knowledge to the test and used a baking soda bath for their dough prior to baking. At the end of the lab, students enjoyed a tasty treat!
