Eleventh grade students at Ward Melville High School are putting their physics projects to the test through the halls of the building. Physics students were tasked with designing and building balloon-powered cars.

Students were given two parameters – the cars had to be balloon-powered and they could not use wheels as part of their design, instead they used everyday products such as CDs and bottle caps. The cars were pushed forward down the hallway by air escaping from a balloon. The challenge was to get the car to go at least two meters and as fast and far as possible.

The hands-on projects brought physics principles to life including energy, motion and force. Students were excited to compete against their classmates and watch their designs come to life.
