Two teams of students from Ward Melville High School achieved two of the highest designations in the annual High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling. HiMCM is an international contest on modeling and developing solutions to real-world problems. Students work in teams of up to four members and have 14 days to provide a solution to a given problem.

This year, there were a total of 854 teams representing 362 schools and 18 countries. One of Ward Melville High School’s teams earned the outstanding designation, which is the contest’s highest award. This designation was given to only nine teams. Ward Melville High School is one of only four teams in the United States and the only team in New York to receive this honor. Congratulations to students Luke Hou, Katherine Liang, Lijia Lin and David Wu.

Ward Melville High School’s second team in the competition earned an honorable mention. Congratulations to Yujay An, Amy Chen, Michael Lu and Benjamin Zhang.
