At the Dec. 14 meeting of the Three Village Central School District Board of Education, several fall athletics teams, individual student-athletes and coaches were honored for their successful seasons.

Athletic Director Kevin Finnerty first introduced the Ward Melville High School varsity football team and congratulated the team for its Suffolk County Championship win. The football team was followed by the varsity girls soccer team recognition for winning the New York State championship. Several of the athletes on both of these teams were celebrated for their individual accomplishments on and off the field.

Additionally, student-athletes and coaches from the following teams were recognized for several honors including all-county, all-state and coach of the year awards: girls swimming and diving, girls cross country, field hockey, girls tennis, girls volleyball and boys volleyball.

The final recognition of the evening celebrated Ward Melville High School student Bailee Williams for her work organizing a heart screening event earlier this fall. In partnership with Heart Screen New York, cardiac screenings were administered to nearly 395 student-athletes. Kevin Finnerty was also given a certificate for leading this district initiative.
