Mr. Dean Kostis’ eighth grade technology class at P.J. Gelinas Junior High School is learning how to fly drones. Before taking flight, students wrote codes to perform on a drone simulator. This helped them perfect their flight and landing. Students took measurements and used software to program their drones to navigate a small obstacle course using their Chromebooks.
This invaluable experience for students creates an opportunity to develop key coding skills while learning the real-world applications of drones. Students learned how programming is becoming a larger part of the world each day, with drones being used to deliver goods, locate sharks near shorelines and just last year, a drone was used to transport a human organ to a hospital for a transplant operation.
