Ward Melville High School is proud to announce that Chana Lyubich and Allen Hu have been named the Class of 2021 valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively.

Chana Lyubich is a dedicated scholar, musician and volunteer. She is a talented violinist, playing with the Ward Melville High School chamber orchestra and furthering her studies through private violin lessons. She’s a member of the French Honor Society and attended the SchoolNova weekend academic enrichment program where she studied math, physics and Russian. Chana will be attending Northwestern University with an undecided major. Prior to enrolling, she will be taking a gap year to attend seminary in Israel.

Allen has also demonstrated incredible academic ability. At the end of this school year, he will have completed 13 Advanced Placement courses and numerous honors-level electives that sparked his curiosity. Although he is planning on attending the University of Virginia as a history major, he has a deep interest in science and math. Taking Human Anatomy Honors and Human Physiology Honors was a fantastic opportunity for him as he was a volunteer at Stony Brook University Hospital since 2017. He was awarded the President’s Volunteer Award and was acknowledged by the hospital in 2020 for more than 500 hours of volunteer work. He was also a member of the French Honor Society and National Honor Society. He placed first and second in the State Division B Science Olympiad and first and seventh in the regional Sci-O Tournament. He conducted summer research in 2019 and 2020, completing a project on bacterial associations with diabetes. Allen plays piano for enjoyment.
