Kindergarten Registration

The Three Village Central School District offers a full-day Kindergarten program for District residents.  In order to be admitted to Kindergarten in September, a child must be five years of age on or before December 1st during the school year in which they have provided, along with the child’s original birth certificate, a copy of their immunization records at the time of registration.  Registration occurs daily at the Central Registration Office at the North Country Administration Center (100 Suffolk Avenue, Stony Brook) from 8:15 – 11:15 a.m. and 1:00 – 2:45 p.m.

Children must be registered with the Registrar’s Office at the North Country Administration Center prior to Kindergarten screening.  For more information about the registration process and the immunizations required, please visit the District website at www.threevillagecsd.org.  Additional information can be obtained by calling the Registrar’s Office at 730-4555.

FAQS for Kindergarten Screening Process 2020

Q: What if we DO NOT return to school this year at all?

A:  If school remains closed until the end of June, we will conduct Kindergarten screenings over the summer.

  • July 1 & July 2 from 8:00 am - 2:00pm in each individual school.
  • Each school will contact the families of those students who will be    screened and they will set up an appointment with them.

Q: What if my child is NOT five years of age on or before December 1st, but I feel he/she is ready to attend Kindergarten and I want him/her to be screened?

A: You may request to have your child screened for early admissions by emailing the Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services, Kevin Scanlon. Send your email request to kscanlon@3villagecsd.k12.ny.us.

Q: What do I need to bring to Kindergarten Screening?

A: Completed social development history, home language, health history, emergency contact, and bus authorization forms are the documents you need to bring to your appointment.

Q: What can I expect when I come to Kindergarten Screening?

A: Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a school staff member and your child’s picture will be taken. Parents/Guardians will meet with your school’s nurse, psychologist, and/or social worker, to discuss any concerns you may have about your child’s health or social/emotional well being. During this time, your child will participate in a screening tool that will be administered one- on-one by staff members. This tool focuses on the following three areas: Developmental skills, such as how your child uses his or her body (motor skills), knowledge of basic concepts like counting and colors (conceptual skills), and your child’s use of language.

Q: How will I know how my child performed on their screening?

A: You will receive a letter with the results a few weeks after your child’s scheduled screening. The results of the screening will indicate whether your child’s performance is below, within, or above age expectations. It is important to remember that kindergarten screening is a tool to identify children who may need a more comprehensive evaluation and the results of screenings help us to balance our class sections.

Q: What if I have a child who requires special education?

A: As part of the process, upon enrollment in school, every parent or person in parental relation to the student is notified of their rights regarding referral and evaluation of their child for the purpose of special education services or programs. Should you have any questions with regard to the referral and evaluation process, you may access copies of “Special Education in New York State for Children Ages 3-21 A Parent’s Guide” on our
school district website at:
