W.S. Mount Elementary School fifth- and sixth-grade student-actors took to the stage this May to perform the beloved musical “Annie Jr.”

The students rehearsed under the guidance of directors and teachers Gretchen Tranchino and Daniel Hayes since mid-November to perfect the show’s dialogue and musical numbers as well as learn complex dance routines with the help of teacher and choreographer Lauren Horn. In addition to the actors on stage, several students worked behind the scenes as members of the stage crew with the help of teacher Melissa Levenson.

From the opening number to the familiar songs in between, including “It’s the Hard Knock Life” and “Tomorrow,” the show was a hit with all ages. The cast of approximately 55 students performed the musical during one daytime and two evening shows for packed audiences.
