The district’s selection into this contest was based on the tremendous fundraising efforts Ward Melville student-athletes did for the DezyStrong Foundation. This organization was created by Long Island native Matt DiStefano, who recently spoke with Ward Melville’s athletes and coaches about his struggles fighting cancer and his new outlook on life and decisions. The students worked to pay the mission of the organization forward as they embraced the “We Get To” mantra and raised money to support those affected by cancer.
