Ward Melville High School’s Invictus yearbook staff captured six awards at the JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention, held Nov. 21-24 in Washington, D.C.

Co-sponsored by the Journalism Education Association and the National Scholastic Press Association, the semiannual event is the largest gathering of student journalists and advisors in the country. During the convention, the students participated in hundreds of practical and professional learning sessions and competed for honors in a variety of categories, including writing, design and photography.

Congratulations to the following students who were honored:

Annie Balocca – Honorable Mention in Yearbook Copy/Caption: Academics
Carson DiFede – Honorable Mention in Graphic Design: Infographic
Aidan Larsen – Honorable Mention in Newsmagazine Layout
Emily Schneider – Superior in Graphic Design: Advertising
Jessica Sung – Excellent in Newspaper Layout

In addition, Emily Schneider's poster design was chosen by the JEA to promote and represent the JEA Scholastic Journalism Week. This was a national competition in which students from all over the country submitted designs that endeavored to represent the theme "Big Questions, Big Results."

According to the JEA, Scholastic Journalism Week "celebrates student journalists who ask important questions about the world around them and thoroughly and accurately convey solid reporting to benefit the audience in a big way."
