Symbolizing their commitment to stay drug and alcohol free, secondary school students throughout the Three Village Central School District marked this year’s Red Ribbon Week through several initiatives.

Organized by district Student Assistance Counselor Alison Herrschaft, the event aimed to bring awareness to the dangers of such negative behaviors and the importance of committing to a healthy lifestyle.

During Red Ribbon Week, tables were set up in the cafeterias at Ward Melville High School and R.C. Murphy and P.J. Gelinas junior high schools. Students visited the displays to sign paper red ribbons and commit to leading a drug- and alcohol-free life. At Ward Melville, members of the school’s SADD Club helped to lead the initiative and shared facts and statistics to punctuate the importance of the topic. Each individual who signed received a red ribbon to wear.
