Setauket Elementary School kindergarten through second grade students were reminded of important fire safety tips this October when members of the Setauket Fire Department conducted a series of in-school assembly programs.

The events, which were held in honor of Fire Prevention Month, covered such topics as developing a family meeting place and escape plan in case of an emergency, the importance of having working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in all homes and tips for staying safe should a fire occur.

Additionally, the students had the chance to take an up-close look at some of the equipment the firefighters use during emergencies as they stepped aboard a working firetruck and ambulance.
