Representing School and Country at Model UN
Delegates from Ward Melville High School’s Model United Nations won their first award at the 2019 National High School Model United Nations conference. Their diplomacy skills as representatives of the People’s Republic of China earned them an Award of Merit, a distinction given to only three schools each year.
At the conference, delegates simulated various United Nations committees with participants from all over the nation and the world. They approached the topics that were discussed in their committees from the point of view of the People’s Republic of China, collaborating with delegates representing other countries to find solutions to the world’s most pressing issues.
Senior Delegate Samuel Kim was also recognized with the Award of Distinction. This is the highest honor given to an individual delegate in committee for outstanding leadership and diplomacy. Samuel represented South Africa in the International Atomic Energy Agency committee, where he debated the feasibility of nuclear energy in developing countries.
