Colorful displays of words and thoughts blanketed the English department hallways at Ward Melville High School as students recently unleashed their creativity and took part in this year’s Day of Writing event.

Within their English classes, students and teachers discussed two powerful quotes – one by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and a separate statement from Aristotle. The messages were timely and focused on civil movements of acceptance, tolerance and unity. The students then earnestly reflected on and thoughtfully responded to these quotes. When completed, more than 1,500 student reflections were hung up for others to read and respond to.
