Ward Melville High School’s Gourmet Foods class learned how to prepare butternut squash soup with caraway seeds when Chef Roland Iadanza visited the building.

Mr. Iadanza is an executive chef with more than 30 years of experience in all facets of fine dining, catering and restaurant operations. He is territory manager for RC Fine Foods in Suffolk County. From 2001 to 2013, Iadanza was executive chef/director of sales for Great Eastern Pasta Works and Pasta People in Lindenhurst, New York, and Babylon, New York. He has a culinary arts degree from Johnson & Wales University.

During his visit, students were able to garnish their own soups in small bread bowls by drizzling sour cream over them and swirling the drizzle with toothpicks. Students enjoyed the soup and discussed Chef Roland’s profession in the foodservice industry.
