Ward Melville High School juniors Jillian Bove and Ally Szema spearheaded a fun-filled badminton tournament this March that helped to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The event was sponsored by the school’s HOSA club in Jillian and Ally’s name, with all donations to the tournament benefiting their team, 3vforacure. Also in attendance was special guest Brandon Bloom, who attends Arrowhead and is a cancer survivor. Brandon and his family welcomed all 21 teams to the event in the opening remarks.

The team and HOSA are hard at work raising awareness for all blood cancers, hoping to raise $50,000 in seven short weeks as part of the Students of the Year initiative. Students throughout the nation are nominated to participate in a fundraising competition to benefit the society’s mission, and the team that raises the most money by the awards celebration on April 26 will be named Students of the Year.

There is still time to donate before the late April deadline. For more information or to help the cause, please visit http://events.lls.org/li/longislandSOY2018/t3vforacur
