A Winning Penny for Your Thoughts
Arrowhead Elementary School students sifted through dozens of pennies over the past two months in search of the oldest penny in the community – a challenge that was sparked by the local Gold Coast Bank branch.
The contest winner was Charlotte Plagainos, a kindergartener who found a penny from 1802. The runner up was James-Henry Parkinson, a fourth-grader whose penny was dated 1847. For their participation in the contest, Charlotte was awarded a $100 prize, James-Henry was presented with a $50 prize and the school’s PTA was the recipient of a $500 prize.
