Studying the Culinary World at Ward Melville
Ward Melville High School Gourmet Foods classes had the chance to learn about the collegiate culinary world when Chef Satoko Matthews, community liaison at Suffolk County Community College, came in to speak with the students.
During the workshop, Chef Matthews explained the opportunities that Suffolk County Community College can offer to students who are interested in attending culinary school. These included earning associate’s degrees in culinary arts, baking and pastry arts, and hospitality management. Additionally, the students learned about the steps they can take after receiving an associate’s degree, including entering the workforce or continuing to study their craft and earning a bachelor’s degree.
To close out the visit, Chef Matthews demonstrated the method for making Gyoza using wrappers and a pork filling.
