As a result of their research proposals, four R.C. Murphy Junior High School students were selected for the Partners in Science Program at Brookhaven National Laboratory, sponsored by the Eastern Suffolk BOCES School Library System and the library at Brookhaven Lab. The selected students included Brooke Diamond, Neil Mehta, Akshay Malhotra and Kaitlyn Tung.

The program’s purpose is to “encourage scholarship in science and mathematics though the use of reference and research materials not readily available in school or public library collections. It is anticipated that the Brookhaven National Laboratory environment will display career choices in research and development for students.”

During the program, the students toured the National Synchrotron Light Source research building, engaged in conversations with Brookhaven Lab scientists and attended a workshop on how to access library resources using the Brookhaven Lab website.
