A Mathematical Mark
R.C. Murphy Junior High School students Matthew Chen, Animesh Ghose, Jessica Liao, Neil Mehta and Claire Yang recently placed third in the state at the 2017 MoMathlon Tournament of Champions at the MoMath Museum in New York City.
During the event, which was supported and sponsored by Con Edison and Brookhaven National Laboratory, the top 10 middle school teams in New York State competed in four challenging rounds – Individual, Team, Mixed Team, and Team Relay – to solve challenging mathematical questions, all without the use of a calculator.
“The students had a great time not only competing but also working and meeting kids across New York and exploring the MoMath museum, which for most of them was the 1st time,” said Murphy mathematics chairperson Rocco Vetro.
