Ward Melville High School students enrolled in the building’s Introduction to Graphic Design classes have gained real world experience this year as they worked to create logo designs for a professional client – The North Shore Montessori School.

As part of the assignment, the students not only used their design skills to create artistic logos – they focused on developing problem solving skills, cognitive development of an idea, understanding of color, time management skills and understanding the printing process on promotional items including the client's possible budget. The students learned how to verbally articulate what was on their visual presentation and incorporated public speaking skills taught by their teacher, Cortney Weisman.

For 18 years, the schools' graphics program has brought the real world in and focused on careers in the communications industry, specifically graphic design.
