Nassakeag Elementary School students worked to create a cleaner Earth as they celebrated Waste Free Lunch week.

Throughout the celebration, students were encouraged to wear coordinated apparel based on a daily theme and use waste free materials when packing their lunches. To help ensure the success of the initiative, students from Robyn Weinstein’s sixth-grade class who once again spearheaded the program, visited their peers’ classrooms to conduct a skit on waste-free lunches, a math lesson and read a book with an environmental theme.

The grade level that generated the least amount of trash during the initiative was the sixth-grade. As a special reward for the students’ efforts, building Principal Gail Casciano, Assistant Principal Nancy Pickford and building employee Mike Milano served them lunch in the cafeteria one afternoon.
