P.J. Gelinas and R.C. Murphy Junior High Schools’ Science Olympiad teams once again performed at the highest level during the Eastern Long Island Regional Tournament and have both earned a bid to compete at the state tournament, which will be held in early April in the Syracuse area.

Out of the 33 teams represented during the regional competition, Gelinas’ three teams placed first, third and fourth and Murphy’s three teams placed second, fifth and tenth.

Throughout the contest, the teams competed in 20 events, spanned the gamut of STEM topics, including engineering, scientific inquiry, as well as all of the science disciplines – biology, earth science, chemistry and physics.
