Ward Melville High School students learned how to perform hands-only CPR and use an automated external defibrillator during a workshop conducted in the school’s health classes.

After speaking with the students about the importance of the training, David Sterne, a community member and district manager for the Setauket Fire District, volunteer firefighters and health teachers worked with the students to practice the technique on mannequins. They learned the proper way to complete chest compressions, the placement for the AED pads and tips for securing professional help while still tending to the victim.
