Capturing Memories

Nassakeag Elementary School fourth-graders in Robbin Teitelbaum’s class worked to preserve some of their childhood memories by creating time capsules at the end of the school year.

The students filled the boxes with a book about their current self, including lists of their favorite things, details about their personality, who they admire, names of their best friends and a reflection on what they would change in the world. They also included copies of any awards they received during the year, pictures, clippings of current events and a letter to their future self and parents.

Once filled, they wrapped their capsules and wrote specific instructions to their future self not to open the box until their senior year of high school.

The project has become a tradition in Ms. Teitelbaum’s class and former students return each June to unveil the boxes they created when they were young fourth-graders.
