Arrowhead Elementary School fourth-graders in Alexandra Gallagher learned about the lifecycle of two animals when they worked to hatch chick and duck eggs this spring.
The students helped to keep the eggs warm in incubators, charted the embryos progress by candling the eggs and learned about the various stages the animals go through in their development. The project tied together the science and English Language Arts skills, as they regularly reflected upon the experience.
The hatched chicks were donated to Benner’s Farm in East Setauket and the ducks will be delivered to welcoming homes in the area.
