W.S. Mount Elementary School students and staff members focused on the importance of making healthy life choices during a special presentation from the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin.

During the event, the school’s fourth- through sixth-graders received yellow T-shirts and learned about the AAPI’s Childhood Obesity Awareness Campaign. Guest speakers Dr. Abhay Malhotra and Dr. Vaijinath Chakote, president of the AAPI of Queens and Long Island, spoke with the students about how they can work to incorporate healthy meal choices into their daily routines. The group discussed what portion of a plate should be comprised of fruits and vegetables and the diseases that can stem from obesity.

Following the assembly, the students participated in a fun run on the backfields.
