P.J. Gelinas Junior High School’s two math teams competed against 24 other groups on Pi Day at this year’s MoMathlon, which was hosted by the National Museum of Mathematics and Brookhaven National Lab.     

During the contest, the students competed in individual, team and mix-up rounds. As a result of their performances, Gelinas’ students earned top honors. Grant Yu, Benjamin Templeton, Rebecca Zhang and William Sun took first, second, third and fifth place respectively in the eighth-grade category while Nancy Zhong took first place in the seventh-grade category. These five students also comprised the team who took first place for the overall competition. Also competing and earning honorary mentions were Kevin Guo, Julia Zhu, Matthew Fiorella, Jake Butkevich and Neil Shady.
