Winning Trials

The district’s Mock Trial team continues to set new records and is now bound to defend their skills on the state level as they compete at the New York State Championship in Albany this May 15-17.

The team earned this coveted chance after winning the Suffolk County Regional Championship, where they out performed 30 teams. The relatively young team has only been in the competition circuit for the past two years, and last year advanced to the state finals finishing fourth overall. To prepare for the season, the ninth through 12th-grade students have been working with coach Douglas Elliot and local attorneys Joe Prokop and Ted Rosenberg since early fall.

"The team has invested an extraordinary amount of time, learning and energy to perform at this level," said Mr. Elliot. "We are still a developing program, but we are proud to be counted among the top programs in a very competitive county. We have tried to create our own style of argument and performance; so far it has worked."
