Smart Student Investors
W.S. Mount Elementary School sixth-graders in Anthony Prinzo’s class recently participated in and dominated the competition during this year’s regional Stock Market Game.
Despite a barrage of challenges often felt by investors, two teams from the class rose to the top and outperformed 233 teams on the regional level to capture first and second place. The winning team was made up of sixth-graders Neal Carpino, Alex Lin and William Zhang, while the duo who placed second were sixth-graders Ivan Ge and Eli Kopp. Both teams were honored at a March Board of Education meeting.
The online simulation of the global capital market engages students in grades 4-12 in the world of economics, investing and personal finance. For the competition, participants are given the chance to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in an online portfolio.
The Stock Market Game, sponsored by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, reinforces classroom lessons such as critical thinking, economics and other financial concepts that students will use for the rest of their lives.
