STARS Program Earns National Recognition

Minnesauke Elementary School’s STARS character education program earned national recognition this winter, as it was named a 2015 United Against Bullying Grant winner in a contest organized by Safe Fleet and its subsidiaries.

As a winning school, Minnesauke was presented with an anti-bullying kit, student prizes and a $1,000 grant to be used to further develop and expand its anti-bullying initiatives. The school’s program works to promote and celebrate the positive behaviors and character traits that students exhibit.

Minnesauke school social worker and PBIS committee member Leia Woodruff applied for the grant. The school staff intends to use the funds to develop events and a reward system aimed at encouraging students’ positive behavior on the school bus, as well as a school bus driver training program to prevent incidents of bullying on board the school bus.
