W.S. Mount Elementary School fifth-grader Ava Della Pietra will soon make her Broadway debut in the world premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “School of Rock – The Musical.”

Based on the 2003 smash-hit film of the same title, “School of Rock” will feature music from the movie, as well as an original score by Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater, with a book by Julian Fellowes and direction by Laurence Connor. Ava has been cast as a member of the children’s ensemble and will be covering a swing track and serving as an understudy to one of the leading child roles — Katie, the bass player.

Previews begin on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015 at the Winter Garden Theatre (1634 Broadway), with an opening set for Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015.

Ava plays the bass in the show, an instrument she began studying less than a week before her audition and has been playing ever since.

This is not Ava’s first time on the national stage. She worked as Little Cosette and Little Eponine in the 25th anniversary tour of “Les Misérables” and as Susan Waverly in the 2014 national tour of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas.”
