R.C. Murphy Junior High School’s Science Bowl teams participated in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Regional Middle School Science Bowl Competition at Brookhaven National Laboratory this winter and took home several impressive honors.

During the academic competition, Murphy was represented by two teams of students. Both groups were challenged to answer questions on scientific topics in earth science, physical science, life science, math and general science.

As a result of their performance, Murphy’s A Team won third place overall and Murphy’s B Team won two out of the four games in their division. The A team was comprised of eighth graders Michael Melikyan, Michaelangelo Scialabba, Kevin Shi and Rithik Sogal. The alternate on the team was seventh grader Jayden Chandool. The B Team included seventh graders Marley Layden, Jack Mitrani, Athulya Santhosh and Yuxi Tai.

Special thanks to Brookhaven National Laboratory for sharing some photos from the competition!
