R.C. Murphy Junior High School seventh and eighth grade students worked to polish their linguistic skills as they took part in the building’s annual school spelling bee this January.

After classroom bees, a cohort of students were selected to take part in a schoolwide contest. After several challenging rounds, seventh grader Madeena Jalili emerged as the first-place winner after correctly spelling the word diplopia. This year’s runners-up at Murphy were eighth graders Rithik Sagal (second place) and Vincent Vinciguerra (third place).

In a new feature this year, two students from the school will be able to compete in the Long Island Regional Scripps Spelling Bee qualifying round. The district wishes Madeena and Rithik best of luck as they advance to the next level!
