Three Village Central School District former educator and leader in the world of athletics Dr. H. Jean Berger will be inducted, posthumously, into the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame on May 26 at the Watermill in Smithtown.

Dr. H. Jean Berger, along with fellow 2020 inductees Ruth Gracey (Port Jefferson), Anna McKeever Kress (Sayville) and Jeannette Rogers (Babylon), will be inducted as the four female trailblazers and pioneers who were instrumental in developing and organizing the Suffolk County Girls Athletic Association in 1949, 23 years prior to the historic Title IX legislation. It was their persistence, dedication and vision which created opportunities for girls to play sports within Suffolk County. These women were legendary advocates for sports equality for girls, and their impact will forever be felt in Suffolk County athletics.

Residents, past colleagues and friends of Dr. Berger are invited to contact Michele Dougherty (dougirish1@aol.com) for more information about the induction ceremony.
